Week 6 Inspiration ~ Jellyfish

OK, so I'm a tad bit behind. I came across the initial posting with the photo of those gorgeous jellyfish earlier tonight, and I had to take a few minutes and jot down the earring ideas that came to mind. In case they aren't finished soon, since I'm back at work now and knee (waist? neck?!) deep in home remodeling, here are the annotated sketches I made.

As I commented to DM earlier, I have a file of jellyfish photos on my computer just waiting to make their way onto my pastel panels. Since I normally paint landscapes, and these would make an excellent springboard for abstracts, I have yet to jump in with that project. Perhaps now that it's the New Year with new goals, I will expand my horizons a little bit. It's the colors and the flowing lines and sinuous curves...

Besides the fact that jellyfish are fascinating creatures. To think that they can sting their prey and draw it into their mouths with no brain directing the whole activity is amazing! There are other varieties that float in huge colonies, but no one is sure how they recognize each other or even stay near each other with out a brain or chemical sensors. They are a very simple yet fairly sophisticaated animal who has been around long enough to become quite evolutionarily adept within their particular niche.

But I digress...I should be silversmithing, not typing!

'JELLYFLOWER'

The Jellyfish has beautiful colour in the bright blue sea. Its shape also attracted me with red and white threads from middle. So, just thought a bunch of yellow flowers with red and white threads. hope you all like it.

The picture of the jellyfish and the bright colors reminded me of days we used to spend on the beaches in Florida!! They were some of the best times, very relaxing, and they were a necessary 'escape' from the hectic city life (I'm still a country girl at heart, even though we have lived in different cities for a long time now)!! Thanks for a fantastic inspirational opportunity!!

  1. Very cool! I love that, so unique, vibrant and gorgeous.

I love Earthagone Day! What a clever boy he is. Enjoy making the suet, it's super easy to do and the birds love it. It's a wonderful way to give back to nature.

  2. Thank you, Suzie!

I've used this photo, that I took at our local Aquarium, for inspiration twice now, but I really wanted to share it with others here. The two times I did create something from it, great fun and I love how they turned out, however, I was hoping to use the inspiration photo in a more abstract way this time. But, we'll have to see what happens, since I truly loved painting the jellyfish, it may be difficult not to paint them again. ;)

He truly is clever, clever beyond his years...always has been. :) I told him about your recipe yesterday and he was really excited about trying it!
